在新冠肺炎疫情於英國尚未控制之前，英國聯合腸胃專家學會(British Society of Gastroenterology-Joint Advisory Group)發表申明，除了緊急性的內視鏡檢查之外，其他內視鏡檢查均暫停，將醫護人力及個人防護裝備，保留給救治新冠肺炎病患上；此緊急申明加上英國政府近來實施的保持社交距離和封鎖民眾進出等措施，以期能降低英國新冠肺炎致死率，使疫情早日控制。
